Meet Nia Amina, the artist formerly known as Marni Williams
Following her calling to work with teens, she’s spent the last 12 years mentoring, teaching, inspiring and motivating at-risk youth as the Project Director of the largest stay-in-school network in the nation at the largest high school in Delaware and as an Executive Director/Program Director with the YMCA Resource Center. During her tenure with both organizations she implemented a CIS whole school model (from a classroom component model) and successfully launched and implemented numerous other initiatives including resource brokering, workshops (life skills, leadership, etc.), one-on-one counseling, motivational sessions, support groups, teen forums, mentor programs, leadership and positive life skills programs and after-school program, among others. She remains connected to the YMCA of the USA. She recently was the Executive Director of Communities In Schools of Wilmington and an Adjunct Instructor at Wilmington University teaching English and inspiring students in the writing process.
In June of 2002, Nia/Marni started a publishing company and released her first book, My Little Book of Poetry: Marni Speaks, Marni Seeks Truth as a one of a kind, limited edition collection. As one of the winners of the Power 99 Def Poetry Contest for her poem, Idolatry, she launched her spoken word debut on the air at the Philadelphia radio station, Power 99 FM on July 7, 2002. She released her poetry book in paperback in February, 2003 and has shared her poetry throughout the Delaware Valley and beyond, including Georgia, Florida, Washington, D.C. and California at various venues such as churches, comedy shows, community events, private affairs, colleges, radio stations, poetry events and other venues. Responding to requests from readers, Marni released her first poetry CD entitled, Marni Speaks, Marni Seeks Truth: The CD in July, 2003.
Also in July 2003, Nia/Marni released her second book, a novella entitled, Call To Purpose and on January 22, 2005 she released her first novel, Mere Presence. Marni’s fictional work includes a spiritual message immersed in real life drama. She has drawn on her legal background to give readers a sense of true justice.
Nia has devoted her life to the submission of God’s will in using her testimony to inspire others. She speaks regularly as a keynote speaker, poet and workshop facilitator at churches and special events. Nia/Marni was a member of the Faith Based Literary Extravaganza team and has volunteered her testimony and services to organizations such as At The Well Ministries, Save the Seed, Inc, Delaware Adolescent Program, Inc., and shelters, among others. For 10 years Marni visited her alma mater’s Black Law School Students’ Association Scholarship banquet annually to give a book scholarship to a single law school student.
![]() By the grace and mercy of God, Nia has always set her goals high and had the faith to achieve them. She gives all glory to God for all of her accomplishments and believes that her life was designed by God to be an inspiration to others. |
